How to target specific groups of students to show them a particular message or quiz.

When adding student content for CareerHub, previously your only option with organising content for students was via the Service, Discipline and Campus Categories. So if your content's selected categories, matched the student's chosen categories, they would appear by default on the students home page, take note however that a student can further browse for content irrelevant of their chosen categories.

While students can browse jobs, employers, info sheets and other resources freely on CareerHub, Messages and the newly added Quizzes will only appear to them on their homepage if their Categories and the Categories of the Message or Quiz match.

Below you can see an example of matching categories between a student and an item on CareerHub.

While the ability to display messages and quizzes to students via categories is useful, you may sometimes want to take a step further.

For example, say you had a urgent gateway message, but the message was only relevant for graduate users of the system. You could set this up by using Targeting.

So if you had a Message or Quiz you only wished to display to graduates on your system. First select the appropriate Categories for your item. Underneath Categories you will see a checkbox next to the Targetingheader, click on this to expand the Targeting options. From these options you can select the user types you are after, and any labels you'd like to target by if desired.

The ability to define messages and quizzes via categories, user types and labels allows you to easily specify a unique group of users for you to target.
